I am about to embark on a new journey. We are getting ducks and chickens! Every homestead needs some poultry right? I have wanted chickens for years, but I have been researching ducks and they have some great qualities. The best, I read they eat fire ants. I have no idea if this is true, but it worth investing in some ducks for the sheer possibility that they might eat some ants. I really want them because they are so great at eating all sorts of harmful insects, they lay large eggs, and are entertaining to watch. We have a tank right behind an old chicken coop, so I plan to let them free range during the day, and lock them up at night. The picture below is the old chicken coop that I am going to clean up and get ready for my ducks.
I’m not to worried about cleaning out the weeds and repairing the fence. My biggest worry is evicting the current residents.
These red wasps just look nasty. There is no way I am going to even try to clean out this coop until I know these guys are good and dead!
A little bit of spectracide spray did the trick. There is a wasp graveyard under the two nests that I saw. I’ll go back tomorrow and make sure that there is no activity before knocking down the nests. My concern is that there are more wasps nests and who knows what hiding in all those weeds. Pray for me… I have lots of work to do before I bring my pretty little ducks home.
