This is the third chapter in our book study of Lisa Harper’s A Perfect Mess. This post contains more information on our study and how to join us during our Facebook live discussions.
Do you ever have days where you feel like you are letting everyone down? You feel like you just cant meet everyone’s expectations. I have a bunch of those days, which is probably why Psalm 139 and this chapter speak to me. God made us, and God is good. His works are good. (Psalm 139:14) He knows me inside and out. He knows my mistakes, he knows my talents, and he knows where I continually fall short. And still he loves me and made me to be in a relationship with him. How awesome is that! And because of his grace and my relationship with Jesus Christ I don’t have to perform for God. My salvation is not based on being good enough.
I think I need to write this message across the top of my mirror. I need a constant reminder of this because I am probably the most critical person of me. Lisa writes, “His perfect grace has finally conquered our self-hatred.” Strong words, but I think a lot of us have self-hatred brewing under our own skins and don’t see ourselves as beautiful. God sees us as his beautiful creation. And we are complete when we use his strength.
God doesn’t make mistakes, and he didn’t make a mistake when he made me or you. He loves us. So next time You are feeling like you just can’t measure up, know that you don’t have to with God. The God of creation crafted me and you to be a beautiful creation and to be in relationship with us. That’s pretty cool.
